Again, this big girl (ovulating/gravid - was hard to tell) was found in Cedar Bog in Ohio. I found another male with two tails in Virginia and another female with two tails in Pennsylvania.
If I were to guess how this happens I would speculate that the second tail formed after development and was a result of an incomplete autotomy of the tail. I have seen skinks that tried to lose their tail but it only partially breaks off, leaving a cut in the tail where I would assume a new tail regenerates even though the whole tail had not been lost. Either way, I think it's weird (read interesting)!
